John Allen, supervisor of the Deschutes National Forest, describes how thinning the forest west of Bend can lower the likelihood of major wild fire. Thinning project are underway as part of the Deschutes Collaborative Forest, in which the U.S. Forest Service is working with close to 40 other agencies, environmental and conservation groups and timber interests.
